Nancy K. Bohl, Ph.D.
Dr. Nancy K. Bohl is the Director of The Counseling Team that has offices located in San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles and San Diego Counties. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and a Masters Degree in Education. She is a licensed Psychotherapist. She has provided a variety of psychological support services to more than 70 Law Enforcement and Fire Agencies since 1983. Nancy is an adjunct faculty member of San Jose State University, Riverside City College, San Bernardino Valley College and is a frequent guest speaker at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Dr. Bohl is an internationally recognized authority and expert on the subject of Critical Incident Stress Management. She teaches on local, State and Federal levels on subjects regarding Critical Incident Stress Management, Peer Support techniques, Suicide, Stress Management, Grief and the Impact of Hostage Negotiations on Crisis Negotiators. She has attended both, the FBI’s and San Jose State University’s Basic and Advanced Hostage Negotiation courses. Nancy is also a certified trainer for the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation and the Law Enforcement Wellness Association.

Dr. Bohl has responded to more than 1,000 critical incidents. Seven hundred of these incidents have been officer-involved shootings. Her services were provided during the Loma Prieta, Landers, and Northridge earthquakes. She responded to the US Airways disaster in Pittsburgh and Charlotte South Carolina. She helped after the Los Angeles riots, the ATF incident in Waco, Texas, Florida’s Hurricane Andrew, Oklahoma’s Tornado, and after Guam’s Typhoon disaster. Nancy assisted in the aftermath of the TWA Flight 800 in New York, the Alaska Air Disaster in Los Angeles and the Unabomber incident in Sacramento, California. Dr. Bohl was also instrumental in assisting those impacted by the Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City. She responded to the Springfield, Oregon, Littleton, Colorado and Santana, California high school shootings. Dr. Bohl led a team of Mental Health Professionals in assisting those severely impacted by the Terrorist Attacks in New York City and provided her services after the terrorist attack at the Pentagon.

Nancy provides a three-day Peer Support school which provides training to emergency personnel who want to be peer supporters for their agencies. A few of the agencies that have utilized this training include the Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Diego and Riverside County Sheriff’s Departments, the FBI, ATF, Secret Service, U.S. Marshals, Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol, Kansas and Washington State Patrols, Canadian Mounted Police, and many other local police and fire agencies.

She is an active member and past Chair of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Psychological Services Section, and for the past fifteen years has been actively involved in helping the families of those killed in the line-of-duty during National Police Week in Washington, DC. She has written numerous articles and chapters focusing on Police and Fire mental health issues.


Lt. Dell P. Hackett (Ret.) B.A., B.C.E.T.S.
Lt. Hackett served with the Lane County Sheriff’s Office in Eugene, Oregon for over 28 years. His assignments within the Police Services Division included patrol deputy sheriff, criminal investigator, and shift supervisor / watch commander. He also served as the departments traffic enforcement sergeant for over three years. His last two assignments included the lieutenant positions overseeing the divisions special operations unit and the training section. Dell has eight years of past SWAT experience and was a certified firearms instructor and police emergency vehicles operation instructor. Lt. Hackett was awarded a bachelors degree in management from Northwest Christian College and he is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, session 182. He is a board certified expert in traumatic stress and a Diplomate member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress. Additionally, he is a Diplomate member of The American Board of Law Enforcement Experts. Lt. Hackett was instrumental in the formation of his former departments peer support and critical incident de-briefing teams. Lt. Hackett has spoken and presented to a wide variety of audiences on the national and international level. He has been a requested speaker and presenter on topics relating to law enforcement critical incident stress, law enforcement peer support, and police suicide prevention and intervention. He has presented on police suicide at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Lt. Hackett has several published articles on topics relating to SWAT, Law Enforcement Air Operations, and Law Enforcement Peer Support.
