Welcome
As President of the Law Enforcement Wellness Association,
I would like to welcome you to our website. Our association is
composed of a group of highly trained and dedicated professionals
whom remain committed to the health and wellness of our nations
law enforcement professionals. I feel certain when you visit the
faculty portion of our site you will agree that we have put together
an "A" team of trainers. We feel confident we can provide
the best human elements and behavioral science training available
to law enforcement.
In September of 2001 I retired from active law enforcement
after nearly three decades as a police officer. During that time
I was able to meet and work with some of the finest and most dedicated
people in the world. The law enforcement officers of our nation
truly are the "Thin Blue Line." They are the warriors
that protect and serve us 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We owe
these brave men and women the best training and support available.
It is no secret the law enforcement profession can lead to a host
of problems including post traumatic stress disorders, depression,
substance abuse, spousal abuse, divorce, and even an elevated
suicide rate. Dr. John Violantis research indicates the
physical health risks associated with law enforcement are leading
to a younger average age of death than the general population.
I am convinced that recognition of the danger signs, department
management support, and training can make literally life saving
(and quality of life) differences in all of these areas.
The tragic events of September 11, 2001 have changed
our nation forever. Now more than ever law enforcement leaders
and administrators need to realize the importance of trained,
confidential, and trusted psychological services within their
respective agencies.
God bless all of you and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Dell P. Hackett
